Episode 58 - Sons of the Fathers (Static Shock S01E08)

static racism.png

Joined by first-time guest Frankie, of Let's Steal a Podcast, Zack, Mitch and Cameron join Virgil and Richie for a very special Static Shock about Richie's racist-ass father.

Virgil stays the night at Richie's house for the first time, having his first real run-in with racism and learning a good deal from his father, and show MVP, Papa Hawkins along the way. Also, the Metabreed are here and Fruit Brute might be back! We don't know!

Alongside the genuinely good and surprisingly well constructed episode, the gang talks about Wrestling Phone Games, Overwatch's newest hero and Cameron makes a disturbing connection to My Hero Academia.

Your Komix Korner recommendation this week are Delicious in Dungeon by Ryoko Kui, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories by Shino Amano and Moonstruck by Grace Ellis, Shae Beagle and Kate Leth.

Episode 53 - Child's Play (Static Shock S01E07)

Childs Play.png

We're happy to announce that All Along the Watchtower has become PLUS ULTRA, as the boys, minus Graham, have been infected by My Hero Academia fever. The first 30 minutes of this episode are filled with wine, MHA Hot Takes and general bullshit, so if you actually want to hear about Static Shock (which they liked this week!), maybe skip ahead a bit.

In Dakota City, Static is forced to tackle his most dangerous foe yet: A kid named Dwayne with GODLIKE POWERS. He uses them to turn actual street garbage into hot dogs. Behind the ridiculous god-child plot, there's actually a solid emotional core which the crew hope are the first signs of Static finding its footing as a show.

Sorry if the audio is a little tinny at times, Zack has run into an unknown sound error and is working to get it taken care of.

Your Komix Korner recommendations this week are X-Men: Grand Design by Ed Piskor and Gotham Central by Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka and Michael Lark.

Episode 40 - They're Playing My Song (Static Shock S01E05)

Screen Shot 2017-07-25 at 8.12.59 PM.png

What's that, All Might? You want ME to inherit your tremendous power?! Gosh, and on the same day that I was crowned king of my hotel after Danny Rand bought a controlling stake in it... zzz... Oh, hey everyone. Graham, Cameron, and Mitchell here, using a device our close personal friend, Batman, invented to listen in on Zack's dreams. They're quite extravagant but a bit predictable. Intrepid host Zack is accidentally asleep while we're podcasting, you see, so we just wanted to check in through the power of Wayne Enterprises technology and make sure he's doing okay.

While Zack gets his beauty rest, the rest of us are enjoying an episode of Static Shock, ish. It's not a bad one, really! Rubberband Man exists now, and the world is enriched by his plucky verve and creative shapeshifting. The three of us, however, struggle to form a misshapen host-like form suitable for podcasting, eventually managing to talk Spider-Man (again!), start a book review pod-in-pod, and mourn the lost art of Crank Yanking.

Your Komix Korner recommendation this week is Planetary by Warren Ellis and John Cassaday.

Episode 32 - Grounded (Static Shock S01E04)

aggravatingarmadillo

Gotta get up, gotta go—to the beach! Hey gang, it’s me, co-host Mitchell. I was at the beach this week, and had a very nice time. The surf, the sand: there was no mistaking this environment i found myself in for anything other than a beach! Anyway, these dorks talked about Static Shock, which I didn’t watch. I assume the people’s champion, Fruit Brute, was cruelly omitted from both A and B plots alike this week, so who cares, you know? Just… who cares. I understand some sort of aggravating armadillo features in this episode. Real Z-tier Mega Man X Maverick, if you ask me.

Your Komix Korner/The Fuck You Read? recommendations for this week are Fables (as a whole, I think), created by Bill Willingham and Lan Medina, and Brave Chef Brianna, by Sam Sykes and Selina Espiritu.

Episode 19 - Aftershock (Static Shock S01E02)

The timeline is restored! After mistakenly uploading the wrong episode last week, we have come back to Dakota City to check in with our old friend Virgil Hawkins! Shit's gotten a bit weird since we've last been here. While Static is still getting his super hero legs under him, we discover why Hot Streak is the greatest supervillain in the DCAU and witness a truly clandestine meeting.

The crew also chats about the Nintendo Switch, the filmography of Meshach Taylor and more Fruit Brute talk than you could possibly imagine.

Your Komix Korner/The Fuck You Read?'s recommendations for this week are Star-Lord by Chip Zdarsky and Kris Anka and Headlopper by Andrew MacLean.

Episode 4 - Shock to the System (Static Shock S01E01)

We're back! We had to hit a stinker at some point, and BOY did we hit one. Keeping with the quality of Static Shock's premiere we descend into chaos right out the gate. Join us for a journey into the depths of creepy bookselling, the manic cry for help that is Static Shock's soundtrack and how many goddamn times the boys can try to drive Zack insane.
