Episode 59 - The Cat and the Claw (Batman: The Animated Series S01E15-16)

cat and claw.png

Mitch is out due to fatherly duties, with Graham, Zack and Cameron tackling a Batman 2-parter that introduces one of Batman's most famous, and recently very relevant, rogues: Catwoman!

Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne become embroiled in a, frankly confusing, real estate conspiracy while Batman and Catwoman find cross paths for the first time! Could it be a coincidence? Probably not!

The gang discusses the recent Batman/Catwoman wedding and its' fallout, so spoiler alert, as well as whether or not Bane is daddy, Zack's soda drinking habits and general irritation at Elon Musk.

Your Komix Korner recommendation this week are The Mighty Thor by Jason Aaron and Russel Dauterman and Catwoman by Joelle Jones and Laura Allred.

Episode 57 - Heart of Ice (Batman: The Animated Series S01E14)

Heart of Ice 1.jpg

It's one of the good ones, folks. The gang has finally gotten to the Emmy Award winning debut of Bruce Timm and Paul Dini working together in the DCAU to reinvent Mr. Freeze into one of Batman's most tragic villains. It's time for Heart of Ice.

The guys spend a shocking amount of time on topic, admiring the quality of the episode on just about every level, but even with the top-shelf cartooning on display they still managed to find time to meet Mitch's new ghost baby, Zero, Cameron gets bombed and Graham busts out a solid Mr. Freeze impression!

Your Komix Korner recommendation this week is Babyteeth by Donny Cates and Garry Brown.

Episode 56 - I've Got Batman in My Basement (Batman: The Animated Series S01E13)

basement.png

Some people have skeletons in their closets, and this week the Boys, minus Mitch, have Batman in their Basement. That was about as good of an intro as this garbage pile of an episode deserves.

Equal parts WACKY Kid Comedy, Home Alone antics and Bird Crime, this one earned its infamous reputation as one of the worst episodes of BTAS. As a diversion from the episode itself, the boys also talk about E3, Zack's childhood groin injuries, Cameron demonstrates how to stop, drop and roll under a bed and Graham gets covered in scorpions.

Your Komix Korner recommendations this week are Analog by Gerry Duggan and David O'Sullivan and Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing and Joe Bennett.

Episode 52 - It's Never Too Late (Batman: The Animated Series S01E12)

never too late.png

It's Never Too Late....to record a podcast! The Watchtower Gang is back for a more recently recorded episode to get this podcast train back onto it's sepia toned tracks. Zack's back in the host chair, which leaves the rest of the boys free to profess their love of cannolis, talk about Archie Andrews' history with meth and enjoy the gift of new fatherhood.

In Gotham City, Batman is a minor player this week as the bulk of the story focuses on two old mob bosses and homaging as many old movies as the writers could manage. Head's up, at the end of the episode they boys discuss their thoughts on Avengers: Infinity War. Spoiler alert: everyone thought Doctor Strange ruled.

Your Komix Korner recommendations this week are Thanos Wins by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw and The Death of Captain Marvel by Jim Starlin and Steve Engleheart.

Episode 49 - Two-Face (Batman: The Animated Series S01E10-11)

twoface.png

We've got a two-fisted two-parter this week, as Batman meets one of his most iconic foes for the first time: Two-Face!

As the crew is impressed by Harvey's commitment to being as on-brand as possible, they're also pleasantly surprised as BTAS appears to be hitting its stride after a rocky start. Along with great performances and solid action, this episode also features the return of Batmanime, with noticably better production values.

Alongside the episode, we also discuss Criss Angel, Cameron makes an actual movie reference, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, Mitch takes a one-man improv class, and Zack loses his mind trying to control the show.

Your Komix Korner recommendations this week are Batwoman by Marguerite Bennett and Steve Epting and Batman: Creature of the Night by Kurt Busiek and John Paul Leon.

Episode 48 - Be A Clown (Batman: The Animated Series S01E09)

batthumb.png

Everybody loves clowns! Especially the citizens of Gotham City! No terrible baggage there!

We meet Gotham's favorite clown, Jekko, who DEFINITELY isn't the Joker and DEFINITELY didn't kidnap the Mayor's son after crashing a children's birthday party. Also, Batman is here.

As we talk about how much we all love clowns (especially Graham) we watch Batman and pals recreate The Prestige, rant about Nick Spencer some more and talk about Hellboy for a solid 30 minutes.

Your Komix Korner recommendations this week are Southern Cross by Becky Cloonan and Andy Belanger and Hellboy by Mike Mignola.

Episode 39 - P.O.V. (Batman: The Animated Series S0107)

Screen Shot 2017-07-21 at 8.29.33 PM.png

It was supposed to be an ordinary podcast... but it didn't stay that way. Somethin' happened, somethin' that nobody seems able--or willing--to explain, and the Watchtower boys were left with their asses in hand and a handful of corrupted audio files, also, in their hands. Now I'm here--not to put anything else in their hands, but to sift through the rubble and discover which of these four chumps is responsible for the audio event which knocked everybody's favorite DCAU podcast off-schedule. Cause one of 'em... ain't tellin' the truth.

During the course of my investigation the suspects will opine on contemporary Spider-Man cinema, Castlevania's monster content, tommy gun composition, and a multitude of other incriminating topics. The Batted Man of Gotham also makes an appearance, if you even believe in that old hoax.

Your Komix Korner recommendation this week is My Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi. Also whatever's in your local funny papers; it's workmanlike stuff but it still takes skill.

Episode 28 - Pretty Poison (Batman: The Animated Series S01E05)

One of Batman's biggest villains makes her debut as we return to Gotham City circa 19XX to meet Poison Ivy!

While everyone's favorite sexy plant-based character (sorry, Swamp Thing) gets introduced, we are also treated to some early anime-ass Batman animation, Batman's voyeur fetish and everyone's least favorite group impersonation: Nick Nolte!

Your Komix Korner/The Fuck You Read?'s recommendation for this week is Moon Knight by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire!

Episode 25 - The Last Laugh (Batman: The Animated Series S01E04)

Hey everyone, this is Zack! Mitch was unable to upload the episode this week, so I had to fill-in. Unfortunately, I wasn't on this one! So I'm gonna make my best guess about what happens:

The crew is joined by Kendall, our first non-bonus episode guest, as they discuss the second Joker-focused episode of Batman so far. And there's only been 4 episodes! Cameron probably references no less than 3 but no greater than 5 BibleThings, Graham sniffs a bunch and Mitch is the only thing that keeps people coming back.

Your Komix Korner/The Fuck You Read?'s recommendations for this week are Detective Comics by James Tynion IV and Eddy Barrows and Spider-Man: The Lost Years by J.M. DeMatteis and John Romita Jr.

Episode 20 - Nothing to Fear (Batman: The Animated Series S01E03)

Scarecrow has attacked the show and discovered our greatest fear: not having complete audio files! Due to a technical uh-oh, we sadly only have about half of an episode for you this week. Sorry, folks. But you will get to listen to the latest on Tim Daly's ill advised skiing career, Alan Moore's journey into the rap scene and the greatest mystery of the show so far: Did Mitch sit in some cat shit?

Episode 7 - Christmas with the Joker (Batman: The Animated Series S01E02)

Ho ho ho, listeners. Hope you're prepared for an expired egg nog induced fever dream because this episode is WEIRD. Joker terrorizes the city of Gotham, the spirit of Christmas and our expectations of what BTAS is supposed to be. We also discuss how much A Christmas Story sucks (a whole bunch), the wonderful caption work they are doing at Amazon and proper Joker Hostage Etiquette.
